Pre-care for Permanent Makeup
Proper pre-care is essential to ensure your skin accepts the pigment evenly, minimizes bleeding, and heals correctly. Leading up to your appointment, no blood thinners, alcohol, and caffeine for 24 hours prior, and refrain from using active skincare acids or retinoids on the treatment area for 2 to 4 weeks before.
- 4 Weeks Before: Avoid Botox or fillers, chemical peels, and laser treatments in the target area. Discontinue use of Accutane (must be off for at least 1 full year).
- 2 Weeks Before: Stop using anti-aging or acne creams containing Retinol or Retin-A, as well as skincare products with exfoliating acids like AHA/BHA. For eyeliner, stop using lash growth serums.
- 1 Week Before: Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds; do not arrive with a sunburn. Stop taking natural blood-thinning supplements like fish oil and Vitamin E. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- 72 Hours Before: Avoid heavy waxing, threading, or tinting of the treatment area. (For lip tattoos, begin gentle moisturizing or a mild scrub if your lips are dry, and consult a doctor for a [cold sore antiviral prescription](0.6.7, 0.6.10) if you are prone to fever blisters). [1, 2, 3, 4]
- 24–48 Hours Before: Do not consume alcohol or caffeine (coffee, tea, energy drinks, or soda), and avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin or ibuprofen to prevent excess bleeding. [1, 2]
- Day of the Procedure: Do not work out or sweat heavily before your session. Arrive with a clean face and no makeup on the area to be treated, and remove contact lenses if you are having [eyeliner PMU](0.6.10, 0.6.14). [1, 2, 3]
